Question

I am trying to create a two way dictionary (Japanese to English and English to Japanese), and my intention is to create an English to Japanese list first, then copy it, and use the "Swap Q&A" feature on the copied list.

However when I select a list of items and try to copy it, the program only pastes a single item.

Is there any way I could copy a list of items quickly and efficiently?

Answer

  1. Once you are done creating an English to Japanese collection, make its copy with File : Copy collection
  2. Open the copied collection, select View : All, and right-click to choose Tools : Swap Q&A
  3. Then choose File : Merge collection to add the contents of the copied collection to the original collection from Step #1

Question: copy for swapping without duplication of sound files

I would like to make two directional a really huge collection of items with sound components. Is there a way to copy all the items without duplication of the sound files? The collection already takes several hundreds of megabytes.

Hint

One method would be to import the sounds first with Files and folders. Then enhance the sounds with texts and use cloze to generate questions and answers both ways.

Question: copy for swapping without duplication of sound files: more details

I have a huge collection of items. I created the collection with "Imprort-> Files and Folders" and by further converting topics to items and using some find and replace operations. Each item has the question component as text (a word) and the answer is a sound component with prononciation. Now I would like to add a copy for each item with answer and question swapped; so I would be able to learn listening comprehension or dictation (by applying a spelling template) in addition to learning prononciation. Is there a way to do the copying of all items

  • without manually processing each individual item;
  • without duplication of the sound files.

Thank you for your answer.

Hint

You could export the branch to duplicate as text and then import it back to see if this solves your problem. You can then do the swap on the imported branch (or perhaps manipulate the exported text file with a macro to swap questions with answer, if you are fluent in this)
