Subject: Supermemo for lyrics?
Question
I'd like to use Supermemo to learn song lyrics (can it be used for that?) but can't figure it out.
Answer
Yes, it definitely can.
Let's do it with Discipline, a lead single from the latest Nine Inch Nails studio album - The Slip - that has just been released today free of charge as a thank you for the continued and loyal support over the years.
Select the lyrics in your web browser and copy the selection to the clipboard (e.g. with Ctrl+C), switch to SuperMemo (e.g. with Alt+Tab), and, in SuperMemo, press Ctrl+Alt+N. This should add a new topic to your collection with the lyrics of the song.
Topic #1 Am I still tough enough? Feels like I’m wearing down Is my viciousness Losing ground? Am I taking too much Did I cross a line I need my role in this Very clearly defined I need your discipline I need your help I need your discipline You know once I start I cannot help myself And now it's starting up feels like I'm losing touch Nothing matters to me Nothing matters as much I see you left a mark Up and down my skin I don't know where I end And where you begin
Then split the lyrics into their logical parts (i.e. verses, choruses, etc.) by selecting them one by one with the mouse, right-clicking it, and selecting Reading : Remember extract Alt+X from the component menu. This should produce the following three additional elements (BTW: once you do that for all of them you can dismiss the original element to remove it from the learning process).
Topic #2 Am I still tough enough? Feels like I’m wearing down Is my viciousness Losing ground? Am I taking too much Did I cross a line I need my role in this Very clearly defined
Topic #3 I need your discipline I need your help I need your discipline You know once I start I cannot help myself
Topic #4 And now it's starting up feels like I'm losing touch Nothing matters to me Nothing matters as much I see you left a mark Up and down my skin I don't know where I end And where you begin
Then create a cloze deletion for each line from a verse/chorus by selecting them one by one with the mouse, right-clicking it, and selecting Reading : Remember cloze Alt+Z from the component menu. For the Topic #2, this should produce the following 8 additional items (BTW: again, once you do that for all of them you can dismiss the original element to remove it from the learning process).
Item #1 Question: [...] Feels like I’m wearing down Is my viciousness Losing ground? Am I taking too much Did I cross a line I need my role in this Very clearly defined Answer: Am I still tough enough?
